Huh?! Did One Poem Earn 150x More Than the Others?

Magic wonders of life: a writer experience

A follow up on “The very first cent earned by a poet"

Not long ago, I wrote an article about how I earned my first cent as a poet. I explained that it was the most undervalued milestone, and yet, a keystone proof of concept. I still get this incredible feeling from seeing my poetry being read and recognized beyond its intrinsic value. I get my biggest rewards from the comments people make after reading my creations. But I never expected to earn much writing poet.

You can imagine my surprise when I realized one random day that one of my poems actually earned 150% more than the rest of them. Even better than most of my “how-to" or “life lessons" articles. Now, I have to admit that the average earnings from my poetry are in the very modest cent(s).

Still, that 3 lines poem that I had so much fun writing earned me more than what I would have earned recycling a can of soft drink. In fact, that fun little creation earned me just enough to buy a full can of soft drink! (inside joke referring to my previous article).

I didn’t particularly promote it. Neither did I have a particular strategy. It was accepted in a publication that doesn’t even specialize in poetry. It’s even one of my poems with the less views! I wrote it on the spur of the moment, without much afterthoughts or research, except for a small health guideline reference.

What is because it had a hidden (not-so-discreet) ecological message as nature is one of my favorite subjects? Or was it because it describes a “be present and appreciate deeply, vividly the moment”? I’m not sure.

But some people had fun reading it. Was it you? I don’t know much about those amazing supporters, but I wanted to thank you from the bottom of my heart. Thank you for taking the time to read my work and give it value beyond my wildest imagination. I’m not sure if this message will ever reach you. Just like I wasn’t sure as well that my initial writing would have…
