I collect life lessons — they’re far more valuable and don’t cost me a dime

Collecting life lessons is a relatively new passion of mine— up until the last few years, my collection was quite small.

I was not a very good student of life.

I spent most of my waking hours lost in my own head, consumed by my own thoughts, which typically were of the anxious and the can’t do variety.

The life lessons were out there, often right in front of my face. Unfortunately, neither my eyes nor my mindset were open to taking them in.

I’m relieved to tell you that over the last few years, my “school of life” grades have remarkably improved.

No longer are all my grades C’s and D’s. Now, I receive mostly B’s and there are even occasional A’s thrown in there. This past semester, I even made the honor roll. And I’m most proud to say I got an A+ for effort.

So what motivated me? Simply put:

I got tired of repeating the same mistakes over and over again.

And making matters far worse —beating myself up over them.

I told myself: enough is enough, I can do better than this, and I sought professional help in the way of therapy.

From my very first session, it’s been life-changing. I learned to stop condemning myself for my mistakes, but instead accept them as part of being human.

Even better — to take valuable life lessons away from them so I could live the happy, self-loving life I deserved.

Disclaimer: No life lesson is ever 100% learned, as that would mean it’s possible to be perfect. Perfection is an unachievable goal, regardless of our level of effort. What we can do is put forth our best effort. That’s my attitude towards applying each of the life lessons below. I am thrilled to be making good progress.
