Psychiatric diagnosis and political scapegoating
Trump is making it very clear that he sees people with a psychiatric diagnosis dangerous. My fear is that his definition of who is “mentally ill” will expand to include those who disagree with his worldview or his policies. If political dissent becomes a sign of supposed mental instability, and mental instability is equated with being dangerous, then I don’t think it’s a stretch to fear that more people could be unfairly targeted and forcibly locked up under the pretense of “treatment” as a punishment for their political dissent.
